i was in Civil Defend, those with record will mostly go Civil Defend and be post as a Gidi Man

Gidi Man = Clean toilet / wash longGao / clean Drain / clean shit all this kind of job.

If they do get call back by the SAF, then they are the better ones. But rarely, they are enlisted.

I am absolutely clear about this because my friend's after-care officer has directly instructed him to look for a job and continued his career and life. The ACO is the one who decide their final release, and they usually dont recommend his boys for NS. Anyway, if the boy dont want to do NS, he just need to nag to the ACO. LOL. hahaha.

there was a guy in my army camp who have been to jail before for gang fighting and still he got enlisted to be storeman.

in the army, he awol and got into gang fight outside. he went to jail and also military jail for his awol.

after his release from military jail he went back to his unit to serve his remaining ns time

His case was mention at saf court martial not civil court and charge under penal code. If he charge in civil court he will still have to serve. Now he was thrown out of db that why.

It depends if he goes to boys home or boys hostel, by legal terms, he dont have a criminal record.

That friend of mine is back in RTC, by the time he is out, he is already 22 years old. Usually these people are overage for enlistment.

Anyway, who cares about these people whether they need to serve NS or not.

I guess it's depend on case to case. Just like the Dave guy who took the SAR 21 out of camp, he was charged in millitary court, will he be discharged from army too? Or the young gang members that killed the polytechnic guy in Pasir Ris a number of them are NSF too....imho, not worth to try such method to get discharged from NS.

How can he go to jail (prison) before enlistment? People are enlisted at 18 years old. RTC is from 14 to 21 years old. Do you mean RTC instead?

As far as I know, SAF enlistment age is from 18 to 22 years old. One can volunteer to go for early enlistment. If one is over age, he is not enlisted at all.

This is what I use to think also.

But recent years (only these few years), due to a change in the prison system. The jailbirds are put on probation or after-care after their terms. Meaning they are not officially released. So they become overage when released from RTC/prison for NS hence they are not enlisted at all. It is something like that. These people are tagged and have to be back home by 8 pm everyday. ACO can extend this probation for misbehavior, so they cannot be enlisted for up to 1 year. If they go to after-care homes, they also have to return home by a certain time.

Anyway, I dont bother because some1 has explained this to me and I wasnt listening.

the oldest recuite i know was 42 years old.

the indian idiot went back to indian for about 20+ years to manage family business back in india. and when he came back to singapore, he was place under arrest and was sent to Civil Defend under recuite. he was back then the oldest recuite we ever see. imagain a CEO of some indian company working with some jailed young cleaning the drain / toilet everyday.

Hello, that is irrelevant. sia. So, I am right. Last year, 2009, I had a scenario. I called up Singapore After Care Association to look for assistance on job finding for my friend who was also liable for NS enlistment. The ACO replied impolitely to ask him to look for a job directly and forget about the enlistment. Perhaps, it depends on scenarios or case-by-case. That friend of mine is jailed for assaulted robbery over $20k of handphone items. He attacked several persons and rob their belongings.

Oh! this guy is back in RTC for another two years for not being able to be back home by 8 pm everyday during probation. He is "good" for a few months, then he start going back home at 1 to 3 am and heck care the confinement. Amazing guy!
